What is Upcycling? Upcycling is the art of giving new life to old clothes by transforming them into stylish, one-of-a-kind pieces. Instead of tossing out your old favorites, discover how to revamp them with cool techniques and personal touches!
During this dynamic workshop, teens will:
- Learn the best hacks for "thrift flips" and upcycling items already in your wardrobe
- Explore Trendy Customization Methods: Experiment with dye and tie-dye, fabric and leather painting, adding no-sew trim and appliques, and more to elevate your creations.
- Embrace Sustainable Fashion: Understand the impact of fast fashion and how upcycling contributes to a greener planet.
- Showcase Their Designs: Leave the workshop with one or more customized items just in time for back-to-school
- Grow their New Skill: Leave with the tools to create new looks and items
Why Choose Our Workshop?
- Expert Guidance: Led by a skilled teacher with a passion for fashion and sustainability.
- Teen-Friendly Environment: Enjoy a supportive atmosphere where teens can express themselves and make new friends.
- Build Skills and Confidence: Gain valuable skills in design, no-sew clothing DIY techniques, and creativity while boosting self-confidence.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Anndrea Fernandez (Annie) is a dedicated educator specializing in multilingual English education and personalized learning K-12. She holds a Masters of Education from University of California, Santa Cruz's Rossier School of Education. She was a founding educator for two schools: Summit Expeditions in the Bay Area in California, an immersive learning environment where students work to explore passions through real-world expeditionary learning, and Summit Olympus, a college preparatory high school in Tacoma where she was a mentor, English teacher, EL coordinator, curriculum writer and researcher. Most recently, she was the Dean and Student Intervention Specialist at Chase Lake Community School in Edmonds, WA, where she helped staff, families, and students with any intervention they might need to feel successful and happy every day.
Aside from her jobs in education, Annie's passion is upcycling fashion or "thrift-flip" - a skill she learned from her many years of thrift trips with her mom. She's the owner of Rescued Riches Studio, an online business with a mission to "keep great items out of the landfill".
