1- Afterschool program teachers and/or summer camp teachers (part time) - ONGOING
Location: Whidbey Island (South Whidbey, Coupeville, Oak Harbor)
Job Type: Seasonal/Part-Time. Afterschool hours are after 3:30pm on week days, andSaturday mornings. Teachers can pick the hours that fit their schedule
About Us: Whidbey Island Language, Art & STEM Center (WILASC) was founded in 2023 with themission to provide opportunities for children and adults to explore their interests and develop new skills in languages, STEM and the arts. Our programs are diverse in nature, butall are guided by the same criteria: to nurture students’ intellectual curiosity, develop their critical thinking skills and a global mindset, and inspire their lifelong love of learning.

Do you love children: teaching them, inspiring them, entertaining them?WHIDBEY ISLAND LANGUAGE, ART & STEM CENTER (WILASC) is looking for people like you to join our team of teachers for seasonal camps, short courses, workshops, andafterschool enrichment classes during the school year.
We strive to offer classes for avariety of age groups from 4-18 as well as for adults. Many of these classes have eithernever been taught locally before, or else discontinued by other providers due to Covid andother factors.

DETAILS:
WE ARE LOOKING FOR BOTH SUMMER CAMP TEACHERS AND AFTER-SCHOOLTEACHERS IN:- Languages (Spanish, Chinese, French, etc.)- STEM (robotics, coding, marine science, space science, LEGO STEM, herbal science,farming, marine science, and other outdoor STEM-based education)- ART: art, photography, film-making, writing, music, performing art, etc.)
RESPONSIBILITIES:TIME COMMITMENT: These are independent contractor positions on a part-time/freelance basis. You propose your hours, subjects, students’ age group, and location you want toteach (choose between South, Central and North Whidbey). Your teaching schedule mayneed to synchronize with our classroom availability, but other than that you are welcome topick the hours that work best around your other jobs and commitments.
CURRICULUM: We invite you to propose your curriculum for the courses you teach. We canalso offer support and resources if you need help with curriculum building.
REQUIREMENTS: Our team of teachers is diverse in age, background, and area of expertise – we value the experiences you can bring to the table. In general, these are the qualities we are looking for:

Expertise in your subject: languages, art or STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering& Math) subjects, acquired through training and/or teaching. Previous teaching/mentoring experience is highly desirable

Experience in classroom management is essential (or else, you must be open and willing to learn to hone this skill set). We would love to work with teachers who are comfortable with and enjoy the fun, creativity, and challenges of working with a diverse group of students, including teaching, motivating, entertaining, andmanaging them while creating a positive and nurturing learning environment for the group.

Possess a growth mindset and be open to learning and growing with the team to constantly improve our offerings.

Be responsible, reliable, and professional. Exercise sound judgment and appropriate conduct when interacting with students, parents/caregivers, and other stakeholders.• Background check is required for all teachers
