Students will hone their skills this semester with basic art skills including one-point perspective and how it is applied to create more realistic drawings, especially in landscapes. We will work with soft pastels and pencils before moving into gestural drawings with ink and watercolors to render lively art depicting animals, people, and plants.
After loosening up and having fun with gestures, blind contours, positive and negative space, we will tighten up again to take a look at the figure and the proportions artists use to make them look realistic. To finish up the semester we will use oil pastels and watercolors to create a work based on feelings and emotions.
About the instructor
Jean Stark is a multi-media artist and art instructor living on Whidbey Island, WA. Painting and drawing are her favorite forms of expression, but she also loves working with clay, collage, and playing with anything that's calling to her at the moment. As an instructor, she hopes to make art available to young people who would benefit from a creative practice. She finds influence in the environment, from plankton to old-growth forests.
Jean holds a Bachelor in General Fine Art, and a Master of Teaching Art from Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. She has over 14 years of experience as an art instructor at the Fairfax County Public Schools and the Art League School (MD).
