About the event

WIWS is honored to introduce Yoga instructor Leah Barnett back to WIWS campus. Leah led the popular Chess & Yoga summer camp held by WIWS in summer of 2023.

During the school year 2023-2024, Leah will continue to hold space for WIWS children in the afterschool claesses, where children are invited to connect to their body and mind through deep restorative practices.

Yoga brings awareness to the forefront of all ages and life stages. By practicing "noticing" how things feel in the body, mind, and heart. There is an opportunity for children to connect more deeply with themselves and create more understanding, compassion, empathy, and the ability to remain grounded and connected in their day-to-day lives.

Yoga also promotes useful skills for kids' school life- like concentration, physical well-being, calmness, control, and better sleep!

Each yoga session with Miss Leah will be creative and based on the energy of the students. The session will include the following components:

  • breath
  • checking in
  • movement
  • intention/mantra
  • rest

From Leah Barnett: "I use a host of tools to engage children to be inspired towards their yogi selves- including books, allowing them to lead the class if appropriate, breathing tools, music, and games. My intention is to give them agency to see and be seen without judgment, enjoy their time in practice, and come away with lifelong skills to be better able to navigate the modern world."

Leah's yoga sessions for grades 3-7 run every Wednesyday from 1-3pm in the Thimbleberry Yurt,  except on holidays and the instructor's private days off.  Leah will also hold an afterschool yoga class on Wednesday from 1:15 - 3:00 for grades 1-3 of WIWS.

TIME: Every Wednesday from 1:15-3:00pm, except during school holidays (students can enter the classroom from 3:00)

VENUE: Grade 6-7 (Miss Franny's) Classroom, WIWS

TUITIONS ARE BILLED MONTHLY BASED ON THE NUMBER OF WEEKS SCHOOL IS ON IN THE MONTH.
