About the event
Experienced yoga instructor Leah Barnett will hold space for tweens and teens in the afterschool classes, where children are invited to connect to their body and mind through deep restorative practices.
Yoga brings awareness to the forefront of all ages and life stages. By practicing "noticing" how things feel in the body, mind, and heart. There is an opportunity for children to connect more deeply with themselves and create more understanding, compassion, empathy, and the ability to remain grounded and connected in their day-to-day lives.
Yoga also promotes useful skills for kids' school life- like concentration, physical well-being, calmness, control, and better sleep!
Each yoga session with Miss Leah will be creative and based on the energy of the students. The session will include the following components:
- breath
- checking in
- movement
- intention/mantra
- rest
From Leah Barnett: "I use a host of tools to engage children to be inspired towards their yogi selves- including books, allowing them to lead the class if appropriate, breathing tools, music, and games. My intention is to give them agency to see and be seen without judgment, enjoy their time in practice, and come away with lifelong skills to be better able to navigate the modern world."
TIME: Every Tuesday 3:30pm - 4:30pm (except during school holidays).
VENUE: Room 112, South Whidbey Community Center
