Embark on a four-day adventure filled with language learning and cultural exploration as we dive into the rich tapestry of Latine American Christmas traditions! Our immersive camp, designed for kids aged 6-12, promises an exciting blend of instruction in the Spanish language, hands-on crafts, festive games, vibrant art projects, and a delightful journey through the diverse culinary delights of Central and South America during Christmas and New Year.Â
Our bilingual Spanish Language and cultural camp engages students in the joy of learning about different holiday customs from various countries, all while acquiring more linguistical knowledge, making new friends and embracing the festive spirit.
The four-day adventures will include: Â
- Crafting traditional decorations
- Claying games inspired by Hispanic cultures,Â
- Creating beautiful art projects
- Savoring delicious foods that represent the heartwarming traditions of the season.
As we embark on this cultural adventure, children will have the opportunity to enhance their Spanish language skills in a playful and engaging environment.
This uniquely designed camp is not just about learning; it's a celebration of diversity, a space for laughter, creativity, and the joy of discovering the richness of Latin American heritage.Â
*** Â The South American countries may include (but are not limited to): Indigenous Mexica, Chilea, Guatemala, and Columbia. We will prioritize celebrating the traditions of our camp students' cultural heritages***Â
NOTE:
- Tuition already includes fees for teaching materials.
- If students attend the full-day camp, please pack their lunch. While we may serve some cultural food as part of our lessons, we depend on families to provide nourishing meals and snacks that suit your children's preferences and dietary restrictions. Â Thank you.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR - Anndrea (Annie) Â FernandezÂ
Anndrea is a dedicated educator specializing in multilingual English education and personalized learning K-12. She is a second-generation Chicana-Filipina who has dedicated her educational career to bringing learning to life for students of all backgrounds and levels.
After graduating from University of California, Santa Cruz's Rossier School of Education with her Master's in teaching, she dedicated her life to serving diverse communities. She became a founding educator for two schools: Summit Expeditions in the Bay Area in California, an immersive learning environment where students work to explore passions through real-world expeditionary learning, and Summit Olympus, a college preparatory high school in Tacoma where she was a mentor, English teacher, EL coordinator, curriculum writer and researcher. Her work in K-6 education includes four years as the Dean and Student Intervention Specialist at Chase Lake Community School in Edmonds, WA, where she helped staff, families, and students with any intervention they might need to feel successful and happy every day.
Born into a native Mexican family in California, Annie grew up alongside Spanish speakers but formally began her Spanish journey in high school learning alongside her classmates. She continued to take courses in Spanish throughout her undergrad time at UCSC, and travel and immersion learning opportunities throughout her life as a way to keep connected to this vital part of her culture. She has dedicated much of her personal time and joy to learning this beautiful language and connecting and sharing her cultural roots with those in her new home of the Pacific Northwest.
