In this 5-day camp,  Teacher Angela Dolph will introduce coding fundamentals and basic programming concepts to students through engaging, hands-on activities and projects.

Highlights

  1. Discover Programming with Scratch: Dive into coding with Scratch, a visual programming language that simplifies complex concepts and makes learning to code accessible and fun. Students will snap together code blocks to bring characters and stories to life.
  2. Create and Collaborate: Students will snap together code blocks to bring characters and stories to life.
  3. Build Confidence and Curiosity: Our course is designed to build confidence through accomplishment and foster curiosity by exploring the endless possibilities of coding.
  4. No previous experience with coding is needed. Our instructors will provide personalized attention, adapting to each child's learning style and pace, ensuring a supportive and stress-free environment.

By the end of the camp, students will have a basic understanding of programming concepts, create their own Scratch games, and carry forward a sense of excitement about the potential of coding.

NOTES: 

Laptops are provided for in-class use. Students don’t have to bring their own laptops for the camps, though they are welcome to if they prefer to.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Grace Callahan is an experienced educator with a strong background in computer science. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science and a B.A. in Linguistics from the University of Washington. 

She’s had varied roles in education, including as an elementary school math coach, a computer programming tutor, and an English as a Second Language instructor. During the school year, she teaches English as a language assistant in Madrid, Spain. These positions involved planning and executing lessons across multiple subjects and tailoring classes to students’ individual needs. Grace loves teaching, and prioritizes fostering an environment where all students can be empowered to succeed.

Grace also has practical experience as a web developer, having contributed to projects at the University of Washington Law School and Delp Law Office. She has a background in a wide variety of programming languages and topics, including web development, web accessibility, cybersecurity, and more.

Grace grew up on Whidbey and is an alumni of South Whidbey High School.
