About the event
In this series of “Art meets STEM” classes, students will learn to make art by observing nature and analyzing the artworks of famous artists. They will play with textures, colors, and shapes, and learn basic concepts in composition & perspective, drawing, sketching, and making paper sculptures. Students also study one artist in each session. Under the instructor's guidance, they will have the opportunity to observe the artists' unique styles and techniques and experiment with mimicking such techniques in their own creations.
Classes will cover: Drawing Plants from Nature (Scientific Illustration & Math) - inspired by artist Mary Wilcott; Landscapes – inspired by Van Gogh; Perspective with Clouds; Fun Figures with Miro, Pipe Cleaner Sculpture; and a Halloween-themed session on the Skeleton Study.
Students will experiment with different media, learn the difference between scientific illustration and imaginative drawing, grasp the concept of perspective by observing the clouds, practice sketching to plan and organize a final work of art, work with the primary colors and have fun with using the imagination to create a whimsical work of art, invent a story to go with their art, and even learn some mathematical concepts through playing with pipe cleaners.
TIME: Every Wednesdays 2:00 - 3:30pm, from Sept 20 - Oct 25, 2023 (6 weeks)
VENUE: South Whidbey Community Center, Room 112
