Whidbey Island Language Art & STEM Center (WILASC) is the first multidisciplinary learning center on the island offering quality enrichment programs in languages, art, music, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) for children aged 4-16. Our programs are diverse in nature but guided by the same criteria: to nurture students’ intellectual curiosity, develop their critical thinking skills and a global mindset, and inspire their lifelong love of learning. We offer on-campus and off-campus afterschool and summer camp programs in South Whidbey, Coupeville, and Oak Harbor.

NEW AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM
WINTER 2026

**NEW** Junior Scientists STEM Club at Crescent Harbor Elementary

(AGES 6-10) - Oak Harbor

Each week, young scientists will dive into a new hands-on STEM adventure—exploring engineering physics, and chemistry through projects such as: popsicle stick bridges, lava lamps, unpoppable bubbles, rainbow potions, and DIY compass. Fun science at its best!

2 locations:

- Crescent Harbor Elementary on Wednesdays (3:30 - 4:45pm)

- NEW: Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce on Mondays (2:35- 3:50pm)

** NEW** LEGO Robotics Beginner Level (Langley)

Students will explore robotics and engineering using the Edison

Robot and the easy-to-use EdBlocks programming language. Young makers will learn how to

design, build, and test creative structures—like bridges and simple machines—using LEGO

bricks and real engineering challenges.

** NEW ** Lego Robotics Intermediate Level (Langley)

In this advanced robotics course, students dive into EdScratch programming while designing and building complex mechanical projects using LEGO and the EdCreate expansion kit. They’ll take on hands-on build challenges, troubleshoot real coding issues in EdScratch, and explore how JavaScript concepts connect to block-based programming

**NEW** Creative Coding with Animation & Game Design (Langley)

This beginner-friendly course introduces students to computer science through hands-on, creative projects that blend technology and imagination. Students will learn the basics of coding logic, animation principles, storytelling techniques, and game design while working independently and collaboratively on creative projects

**2 time options:

- Wednesdays 2:45-4:00pm (starts in Jan 2026)

- NEW: Saturdays 11:05am-12:20am (starting in Feb 2026)

**NEW** Computer Science: Python, JavaScript, and Beyond (Langley)

Explore the world of computer science through a hands-on, project-based course that builds real-world skills in Python and JavaScript.

**NEW** Draw Your Favorite Anime Characters Workshop- Langley (Jan 31, 2026)

In this hands-on illustration workshop, students learn to design dynamic anime- and movie-inspired characters while building creativity, confidence, and storytelling skills with guidance from a professional artist. Ages 8-13

**NEW** Beatmaking and Song Production for Teens

- Oak Harbor (Feb 5, 2026)

Using beginner-friendly music production tools, students will learn how producers shape sound, build beats, and turn raw ideas into original tracks. By the end of the workshop, students will gain hands-on experience with music production and beatmaking technology, and walk away with the first track of their own! Ages 11-16. Laptops provided. BYO headphones.

**NEW** Winter Imagination Studio: Tree houses, Snow Globes & Dioramas- Oak Harbor (Feb 5-6, 2026)

Let creativity take the lead in this hands-on winter craft workshop! Over two fun-filled days, young makers will dream, design, and build their own mini worlds: a treehouse, snow globes, and winter diorama. Drop-in option is available. Ages 6-12

**NEW** (FREE) STEM Workshop - Magnetic Slime (Feb 4, 2026)

Welcome to the wonder world of magnetism! Students will explore how magnetic fields can interact with polymers by creating a magnetic slime, then observe how the slime moves under the magnetic influence.

The workshop is FREE, funded by the Friends of the Langley Library. RSVP is recommended. Ages 6+
